-2017 Model Year Shown

The brand INFINITI has long been synonymous with refinement, but if early looks are accurate the 2018 QX50 will bring a new level of excitement and refinement to the American roads. This new crossover has sophistication and good looks, but perhaps the most significant features are found in the advanced technology such as a variable compression engine, semi-autonomous driving and exceptional fuel economy.

Exterior

The compact two-row crossover SUV shares a platform with the Nissan Pathfinder, and has been expanded from the shorter wheelbase INFINITI has introduced in the past. While the final design is still under wraps, industry insiders expect that the production model will share a great deal of design with the Inspiration Concept vehicle introduced in Beijing in early 2017. The exterior of the production model is likely to be less aggressive, with a smoothed-down edges and a narrower grill. Taillights are long and narrow, and seem to connect via a spoiler.

Interior

While the exterior seems to have received a significant makeover, the interior of the concept model was surprisingly unchanged — but still well-designed. Look forward to a dual entertainment system in the production model, with the majority of functions operating via a large touchscreen instead of buttons. Comfortable bench seats round out the interior, with fold-down seats to allow room for additional cargo. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are expected to be standard, with WiFi connectivity, dual-zone climate control and an excellent sound system for listening enjoyment.

Safety

INFINITI is set to introduce a variety of new safety features, including the new semi-autonomous ProPilot system that promises to handle stop and go traffic, maintain distance between vehicles and also keep the crossover in its own lane. Fortunately, all of these fantastic new safety features are slated to arrive with the production model in late 2018.

Performance

Fuel efficiency is a priority for drivers, and the new QX50 INFINITI will deliver. Experts predict that the higher compression ratios utilized with the new crossover will squeeze as much as 27 percent more efficiency from the already-efficient engines, while maintaining the driving excitement of around 268 horsepower and 288 foot pounds of torque. This balance of power and performance is a hallmark of the brand, and is expected to continue in this latest entry into the crossover market.

Expect to see the debut of the exciting new QX50 design by the end of 2017, perhaps with a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show towards the end of the year. The updates are significant, considering the mild interest in previous versions of this vehicle — so expect this hybrid to be a stylish entry into the crowded SUV crossover market for 2018.
